The news: Amazon is cracking down on Prime account sharing. The retailer is ending its Prime Invitee program, which allowed members to share benefits outside of their households, on October 1.
- Users can switch over to Amazon Family, which allows for shared benefits between two adults, four teen accounts (if they were added before April 7, 2025), and four children’s profiles, provided they reside at the same address and use the same payment method.
- Others can subscribe to Amazon Prime individually at a reduced rate of $14.99 for 12 months.
Juicing growth: It was only a matter of time before Amazon joined Netflix, Disney+, and HBO in restricting access to paying subscribers—in large part because the retailer has been so successful in getting consumers to sign up.
