Agentic AI browsers face a towering barrier to entry

Key stat: Google Chrome controls 73.2% of worldwide internet traffic, more than five times the combined share of all non-Safari competitors, according to an October survey from StatCounter.

Beyond the chart:

  • AI companies are building engagement through apps, not browsers. ChatGPT mobile users open the app 7.8 times per day, surpassing the top browsers and search engines, according to Sensor Tower.
  • Meanwhile, consumers remain skeptical of AI-powered browsing experiences. Nearly 70% of US adults are not interested in AI-powered shopping assistants, according to a September 2024 EMARKETER and CivicScience survey.

Use this chart: Drop this into your next AI product strategy deck to temper expectations around agentic browser adoption. Use it to show stakeholders why even well-funded AI browsers like Atlas, Dia, and Comet face uphill climbing. Chrome's grip on user behavior is the moat these newcomers must cross.
