More US Adults Say Their Financial Situation Is Getting Worse Than at Any Point Since Late 2001
Note
Respondents were asked, “Right now, do you think that your financial situation as a whole is getting better or getting worse?”
Methodology
Data is from the April 2026 Gallup report titled "Affordability Still Dominates Americans' Financial Worries." 1,001 US adults ages 18+ were surveyed by telephone during April 1-15, 2026. Respondents lived in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia. For results based on the full sample of national adults, the margin of sampling error is +/-4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. Interviews were conducted on landline telephones and cellular phones, including in Spanish for respondents who are primarily Spanish-speaking. Each national adult sample included a minimum quota of 80% cell phone respondents and 20% landline respondents, with additional minimum quotas by time zone within the region. Landline and cell phone numbers were selected using random-digit-dial methods, and landline respondents were chosen at random within each household based on which member had the next birthday.
