Note

Respondents were asked, "Thinking about your main personal smartphone, which statement most applies to you?" Early adopters are those responding: "I already have a 5G-enabled smartphone." Early majority includes those responding either: "I'll trade in my current smartphone for a 5G-enabled one when ... it's available" or "I'll trade in my current smartphone for a 5G-enabled one when it's more affordable." Late majority includes those responding either: "I plan to wait out my current contract and then assess the benefits of a 5G-enabled phone" or "I plan to see whether other people find 5G-enabled phones useful before making a decision." Laggards are those responding, "I don't plan to get a 5G-enabled phone in the foreseeable future."More

Methodology

Data is from the March 2019 GlobalWebIndex report titled "The 5G Opportunity." Internet users ages 16-64 in the UK (n=2,208) and the US (n=2,182) were surveyed online during February 2020. Additional data is drawn from GlobalWebIndex's ongoing interviews of more than 688,000 respondents per year worldwide.
