This chart shows the primary reasons that US internet users are against sites/apps using their data to serve relevant ads. Users gave multiple reasons as well as their opinions on if they are ok with sites/apps' actions.

Note

Respondents were asked, "Are you in favor of web sites or apps using what they learn about you to serve up advertisements you might find interesting?"

Methodology

Data is from the May 2018 Janrain "Consumer Attitudes Toward Data Privacy Survey." 1,051 US internet users ages 18+ were surveyed online in April 2018. Janrain is a customer profile and identity management software provider.
