Methodology

Data is from the April 2018 Progressive Grocer "85th Annual Report of the Grocery Industry." 144 US retail grocery executives were surveyed in 2018. Respondents classified themselves as independent retailers (38%) and self-distributing chains (62%). Respondents operated fewer than 50 stores (44%) and 50 stores or more (56%).
