Would US Adults Use a Smartphone App that Alerts Them to Potential Exposure to Someone Who Was Diagnosed with Coronavirus? (% of respondents, April 2020)

Note

Respondents were asked, "Apple and Google have proposed creating a smartphone app that would tell users whether they have been physically close to someone who has been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The app would rely on people anonymously reporting if they have been diagnosed in the app. If this ... smartphone app were available today, would you definitely use it, probably use it, probably not use it or definitely not use it?"More

Methodology

Data is from an April 2020 poll conducted by The Washington Post and University of Maryland. 1,008 US adults were surveyed by phone during April 21-26, 2020. 70% of respondents were reached on cellphones and 30% on landlines. Overall results have a margin of sampling error of +/-3.5 percentage points. The overall adult sample is weighted to match the demographic makeup of the population by sex, region, age, education, race/ethnicity, marital status and population density according to Census Bureau estimates.
