Women’s telehealth Wisp expands national footprint and services with acquisition

The news: Women’s telehealth company Wisp is buying TBD Health to help build out its national infrastructure for health systems and employers and expand its sexual health and diagnostic services. Wisp serves 1.8 million US patients with virtual women’s health care, while TBD adds a hybrid clinic-and-telehealth model for sexual wellness, including HIV prevention and STD testing.

Why it matters: Women are driving the next phase of telehealth growth as digital health companies build out their women-focused services to tap into growing demand for care.

  • Women already use telehealth more often than men: 30.9% of women use it compared with 26.7% of men, per EMARKETER’s recent “Digital Health 2026” survey.
  • They also spend more on overall healthcare. Women spent $39.3 billion on out-of-pocket healthcare costs in 2024 compared with $30.5 billion for men, per GoodRx report in March.

Telehealth companies are broadening their services to attract and retain women across life stages that impact their healthcare needs.

  • Last year, Hims & Hers added perimenopause and menopause care, Noom launched a women’s hormone replacement therapy (HRT) program, and WeightWatchers repositioned as a women’s health company and added menopause care and HRT.
  • Smaller niche players expanded their scope as well with Midi Health moving into longevity services and Maven Clinic expanding from fertility services into parenting and menopause.

Implications for telehealth and healthcare providers: Women are key healthcare consumers and influencers, controlling about 80% of healthcare decisions for themselves and their families. But at the same time, many women report feeling overlooked or dismissed in traditional care settings: 93% of women in a survey last year by MediChecks say they’ve felt dismissed when seeking answers about persistent health issues. This has led women to build their own digital health information networks. As telehealth platforms expand women’s health offerings, rebuilding trust alongside compassionate clinical care will help determine which providers women choose.
