Online grocery sets a new record as shoppers shift more spending online

The data: Online grocery shopping hit a new high in September, when nearly 64% of US households bought at least one grocery item online, surpassing the previous record set in October 2025, per Brick Meets Click.

  • By the end of Q3, 81% of US households had purchased groceries online at least once, underscoring the channel’s expanding reach.
  • Online grocery sales rose 20.7% YoY in Q3, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of growth above 20%.

The results align with our new US online grocery forecast, which expects sales to grow 12.9% YoY this year. That would drive up ecommerce’s share of overall grocery sales to 15.5%, up from 14.3% last year, and we expect it to continue gaining share, reaching 21.4% by 2030.
