The news: TikTok Shop sellers can now offer box-free, label-free returns through an exclusive partnership with UPS-owned Happy Returns.

The service is available to participating TikTok Shop sellers regardless of whether they handle fulfillment themselves or use TikTok Shop’s fulfillment services.

How it works: After initiating a return through TikTok Shop, shoppers will receive instructions that include the option to use Happy Returns. They can then drop off eligible returns without a box or label at one of the roughly 10,000 Return Bar locations, which include The UPS Store, Staples, and Ulta Beauty stores.

At the return location, workers scan, bag, and label individual products before consolidating them into larger shipments for transport to processing hubs.

Why it matters: Happy Returns gives TikTok Shop sellers another way to compete with established ecommerce players on convenience while reducing some of the perceived risk of buying from an unfamiliar seller.

For TikTok, easier returns could also encourage merchants to put more of their inventory and sales through TikTok Shop by giving smaller sellers access to return infrastructure they would struggle to build themselves.
