The news: Shopify partnered with Coinbase and Stripe so customers can pay with the USDC stablecoin at checkout.

A pilot will roll out crypto payments to select merchants before expanding the integration to all Shopify merchants by year’s end.

How it works: Consumers checking out on Shopify’s platform can pay with USDC held in their preferred crypto wallet. 

Merchants will by default be paid in local currency, but they can opt to receive USDC directly. 

For US purchases, Shopify plans to offer consumers 1% cash back for USDC transactions at no additional cost to the merchant.
