Paze adds Citi credit cardholders as it expands digital wallet beyond core member banks

The news: Early Warning Services-owned Paze will be available to Citi credit cardholders in the coming weeks, per a press release.

Paze has been available to cardholders of EWS’s seven member banks, which include Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo, since October 2024. The Citi tie-up is Paze’s third bank partnership outside of this core member group after Elan Financial Services and Star One Credit Union.

Why this matters: Paze’s rollout has had a slow start as it builds out both sides of its network. On the merchant front, Paze partnered with major payment platforms like Fiserv and Nuvei.

But to gain meaningful traction, Paze must also expand to non-member banks so all US cardholders can access it as easily as they do with other digital wallets, like PayPal.

The Citi expansion is a strong move in this direction, marking Paze's largest non-member bank partnership to date. But moving forward, Paze still needs to onboard other major issuers, like American Express or Barclays.
