The news: OpenAI is preparing to release “Strawberry,” its first reasoning-focused AI, as part of ChatGPT in the next two weeks. Strawberry will have the ability to “think” before responding to queries.

Available through ChatGPT as a text-only option, Strawberry’s response times will take between 10 and 20 seconds but is designed to generate more deeply researched answers to complex queries.

Why it’s worth watching: As competing AI solutions such as Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus now offer feature parity with ChatGPT, OpenAI is finding ways to retain its lead in an increasingly crowded generative AI (genAI) space.
