OpenAI dodges China-based cyberattack

The news: OpenAI revealed that a China-based hacker group, SweetSpecter, attempted email phishing attacks on its employees, raising the alarm that state-sponsored cybercriminals are after information from US AI companies.

Hackers posed as ChatGPT users and sent customer support emails that included malware attachments that would have potentially taken screenshots or exfiltrated data if opened by employees.

State-sponsored hacking is escalating: While OpenAI says the attempts were unsuccessful, Beijing-sponsored hacking attempts on US companies and networks are intensifying.
