The news: MoonPay is now live in ChatGPT’s App Store, per a post on X.

Users can query the chatbot to purchase various tokens; the chatbot will give them a link to MoonPay’s platform to complete the transaction with a credit card, digital wallet, or bank transfer.

How we got here: Payment providers are slowly ramping up products that support AI and agentic commerce. We forecast that by 2029 there will be over 85 million AI-assisted digital shoppers, collectively spending $144.45 billion in AI-assisted retail ecommerce sales.

However, early efforts at jump-starting that spend have been mixed. ChatGPT rolled back its Instant Checkout integration due to low consumer interest. 

Implications for payment providers: MoonPay is the first crypto platform to seize on ChatGPT app integrations. While all consumers may not be racing to shop via AI, many are turning to chatbots for discovery—especially among young shoppers. 

If these AI-forward consumers eventually shift into AI and agentic shoppers, MoonPay is positioned as a pioneering AI platform-compatible crypto provider on the market by the time that change materializes.
