Healthcare industry watchers take issue with NYU Langone’s Super Bowl ad

The news: Folks in the medical community are questioning NYU Langone Health’s decision to run a TV ad during the Super Bowl that cost the not-for-profit health system $8 million+.

Unpacking the ad: The commercial featured NYU Langone doctors and surgeons unable to execute a basic football play. Ex-New York Giants player Victor Cruz appears, sarcastically clapping before saying, “Seriously, you guys are the best—at the health system stuff.” A narrator then clarifies, “Not the best football team, but the best health system.”

The bigger picture: Doctors and other medical experts took to social media to criticize the health system for spending over $8 million on the TV spot despite having tax-exempt hospital status.
