Google faces EU crackdown over Search and Play Store practices

The news: The European Commission (EC) says Google continues to breach Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules by preferencing its own shopping, travel, and finance services in search results above competitors. The penalty for violations could reach 10% of Google’s global revenues.

Google’s Play Store policies are also under investigation for allegedly restricting developers from offering alternative payment options. 

Regulators are closing in: The EU charged Google with DMA violations in preliminary findings Wednesday even after Google adjusted its search and Play Store policies—the EC says these changes are insufficient in addressing their anticompetition claims.
