EU regulators pressure Apple to open iOS or face hefty fines

The news: Apple received a warning from the EU to open up its iPhone and iPad operating systems to rivals and third-party developers—failure to do so could result in them paying regulatory fines of up to 10% of its global annual sales.

The latest antitrust enforcement under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) comes as Apple is in the middle of a product-wide AI pivot.

The requirements: The DMA wants Apple to open up access to key features like the Siri voice assistant as well as the payments chip.
