Building a Content Delivery Strategy for Amazon Alexa

How the state of Georgia talks to residents through voice

An interview with:
Preston So
Director, Research and Innovation
Acquia Labs

Marketers strive to be present on voice assistants so they can provide information, content and quick transactions when users ask. The same goes for government entities that want to make information more accessible to residents. eMarketer's Sean Creamer spoke with Preston So, director of research and innovation at Acquia Labs, about how the Software as a Service (SaaS) provider helped the state of Georgia build the Ask GeorgiaGov Alexa skill, and the key learnings for any organization that wants to reach voice users. So was interviewed as part of eMarketer’s June report, "What's Next for Voice Control?: Digital Assistants, Smart Speakers and the IoT."

eMarketer:

Why did the state of Georgia want to have its own skill for Amazon Alexa?

Preston So:

Digital Services Georgia [DSGa] wanted to reduce instances of people standing in line at local agencies or calling the wrong agency hotlines. They saw that voice-based communications provide direct paths to relevant information for citizens.

eMarketer:

What government services did you prioritize for this project?
