The news: Over 48 million Americans, or about 1 in 7 people, live in a pharmacy desert, according to new research from GoodRx. For the study, people were considered to be in pharmacy deserts if the average driving time to the three closest pharmacies exceeded 15 minutes for more than half of the county's population.
The data on pharmacy deserts in the US: 45% of US counties lack sufficient pharmacy access. Residents in nonmetropolitan areas are the most affected.
