Amex debuts travel app, experiential passport ahead of Platinum refresh

The news: American Express launched the Amex Travel App, Amex Passport, and a new Centurion Lounge feature ahead of its anticipated Platinum card refresh.

The app will go live September 18 on iOS, with Android access enabled in the weeks following.

Optimized booking: 81% of respondents in an Amex survey wished there was an all-in-one app that paired booking capabilities with travel inspiration.

Cardholders can expect destination inspiration, smart planning tools, and seamless booking all in one place, eliminating the need to use multiple websites for travel planning and booking. The app will also provide personalized recommendations and breakdowns of members’ benefits and rewards to optimize cardholders’ digital experience.

Digital keepsakes: Amex Passport continues the issuer’s edge in experiential travel rewards. Eligible cardholders can receive customizable digital stamps based on their travel destinations for an exclusive virtual passport. Each stamp is shareable and stored on a public blockchain like an NFT, creating a digital keepsake for each trip.

Lounge enhancements: In response to overcrowding concerns, Amex has added estimated wait time to Centurion lounges to give travelers additional information to plan their lounge visits with ease.
