The news: During a Congressional subcommittee hearing, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. laid out his vision for all Americans to use a wearable with health-tracking capabilities within four years.
Kennedy said the HHS is gearing up to launch a major advertising campaign to sell consumers on the value of health wearables.
Kennedy said HHS is exploring ways to pay for people’s wearables, touting the devices as being able to achieve the same result as Ozempic at a much lower cost.
Zooming out: We forecast that nearly one-quarter (24.2%) of US consumers, or 83.2 million people, use a smart wearable that monitors or measures health and fitness activities such as an Apple Watch, Fitbit, or Oura Ring.
