In September 2019 Bank of America polling among millennial parents (ages 24 to 41), 47% of mothers and 33% of fathers said they would rather stay home full-time but couldn’t afford to do so. Likewise, March-April 2019 polling by Motherly among millennial mothers (ages 23 to 38) found 75% saying financial need was their main reason for continuing to work.

If retailers and subscription brands are looking to increase revenue streams from these services, they should look no further than millennials. The average age of mothers having their first child was 29.2 in Canada in 2016, the most recent year for which census data is available. Mothers’ average age at childbirth, which factors all births, was 30.8 years. Assigning personas like moms to the millennial demographic has provided an effective form of sub-segmentation that leads to campaigns with more precise targeting and a more contextual tone.
