Every year, retailers look to get out of the gates fast with their holiday promotions, sometimes even beginning before Halloween. “Traditional holiday behavior is that we see a lot of retailers racing to start their holiday earlier and earlier to grab an initial tranche of demand before their competitors,” said Jason Goldberg, chief commerce strategy officer at Publicis.

During Halloween, trick-or-treating was limited—and in some cities, even banned.
