In 2022, 40.7% of China’s digital ad spending will go toward the ecommerce channel, for ads offered by retailers like Alibaba and JD.com. This eclipses the share in the US, where 14.5% of digital ad spending will flow to ecommerce channel ads sold by the likes of Amazon, Walmart, and eBay.

For comparison, total US digital ad spending will increase 7.5% this year. The future for CTV is bright. We increased our forecast for CTV ad spending in upcoming years. In 2023, we forecast that CTV ad spending will reach $16.34 billion, and by 2024 it will reach $18.29 billion, more than double the amount spent this year.

This year, CTV will account for 5.4% of total US digital ad spending. For total media ad spending, which includes digital and analog channels, CTV will account for 2.9% of all ad spending in 2019. We expect these figures to rise. By 2023, 7.0% of total digital ad spending and 4.7% of total media ad spending will go to CTV. Video ads account for the vast majority of CTV ad revenues.
