Pre-pandemic, UK retail ecommerce sales were already on a steady ascent. Apart from China, no other country we tracked in 2019 had ecommerce account for a larger proportion of total retail sales. The stay-at-home orders announced in late March, along with government-enforced shop shuttering, have helped accelerate this trend in the UK.
