When asked which products they are most likely to buy due to social media, Gen Zers’ top-cited category was clothing, followed by beauty/skincare products and technology. Despite being a relative newcomer to the social media mix, TikTok early on showed signs of being a fast-growing source of discovery and influence.
While apparel, footwear, and accessories offer the most obvious use cases, others are exploring new ways of connecting with consumers online, even though the direct revenue opportunities are less evident. In November 2021, Dyson launched a virtual showroom available as an app through Meta’s Oculus store that featured consumer products such as its cult favorite hair styling tools and vacuum cleaners.
