According to Pixalate data from Q2 2019, 19% of US programmatic display impressions were invalid. Fraud detection firm Cheq reported in February 2019 that 18% of all US bid requests analyzed between October 2018 and the following February were fraudulent. Ecommerce is one of the few areas publishers are still seeing revenue potential: When US publishers were asked what they expected their largest source of revenue would be in Q1 2021, more than a third (36%) named ecommerce, making it the top-ranked choice, according to a December 2020 survey by Lotame. Some 62% ranked it at least in their top three.

YouTube’s net CTV ad revenues will account for 18.5% of total US CTV ad spending this year. Hulu’s net CTV ad revenues will total $1.96 billion and reach $3.10 billion in 2022. It will account for just under one-fourth (24.2%) of US CTV ad spending this year, and its share of net US CTV ad spending will remain larger than that of either YouTube or Roku through 2022.
