In March, Snapchat rolled out its TikTok-like feed, Spotlight, to users in three more countries: Brazil, India, and Mexico. Before the expansion, Spotlight was available to users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France.

Mexico, Brazil and Argentina rank in the top 10 for Facebook penetration based on this metric. The region has been a hotbed of social networking for years, and it remains strong. In Argentina and Mexico, virtually every social network user is on Facebook. Latin America Remains a Hotspot for Facebook Usage. Social networks have long had a powerful presence in Latin America.

India, Vietnam, and Mexico were the three fastest-growing countries for Instagram in 2020, and growth in the coming year could be aided by the launch of Instagram Lite. For context, last year, Instagram’s global user base was about half the size of Facebook’s, which had roughly 1.90 billion. But in three countries—Japan, South Korea, and Russia—Instagram actually had more users than Facebook.

We expect 12.2% of social network users in Mexico to use Snapchat at least once per month in 2019. Mexico will continue to track above the rest of the region through our forecast period. When it comes to user numbers, though, Brazil wins out in the region. There will be 10.0 million Snapchat users in the country in 2019, and it will add a further 1.5 million by 2023.
