During the earnings Q&A, Snap's leadership didn't clarify exactly where, though it's likely to have been primarily in emerging and Android-heavy markets like India. In the call, CEO Evan Spiegel called out the rebuild of the Android app and localization efforts as driving the growth. Overall, DAUs in "Rest of World" grew by 28% from Q3 2018 to Q2 2019 vs. 6% in North America.
In Q2 2019, games represented nearly six times as many Android downloads as the No. 2 category, tools, and nearly four times as many iOS downloads as photo and video apps. Games are also the biggest source of revenues for app stores.
“Clearly the relaunch of the Android app has had a meaningful impact on the Q2 user figures, especially outside of the US and Europe, where the Android operating system is especially popular. The popular face filters have also helped drive usage and engagement. Now, the challenge is to convince those newly added users to stick around and use Snapchat on an ongoing basis.
