More than 80% of internet users will use a social network regularly
London, UK (June 27, 2017) — More than eight in 10 internet users in China, or 626 million people, will access social networks regularly in 2017, according to eMarketer’s latest forecast.
eMarketer has raised its previous estimates for social network user growth in China by more than 4%, mainly because of older users increasingly using homegrown messaging platform WeChat to perform a myriad of tasks that reach far beyond messaging. For example, 62.0% of internet users ages 55 to 64 in the country will be social network users this year—equating to 28.8 million individuals.

Twitter users will total 25.1 million this year

Will account for 40% of US digital travel sales in 2017

Nearly 60% of digital buyers will purchase via advanced handset this year
London, UK (June 19, 2017) — Using smartphones to buy goods and services is becoming commonplace in the UK. According to eMarketer’s latest UK ecommerce forecast, 58.6% of the country’s digital buyers ages 14 and older—25.2 million people—will make retail ecommerce purchases (excluding travel and event tickets) via smartphone this year.

Ecommerce in core categories to grow nearly 16%
New York, NY (June 13, 2017) — US retail sales during the back-to-school shopping season of July and August 2017 will grow 4.0% over 2016, according to eMarketer’s latest forecast.
Last year set a record for back-to-school season sales, but 2017 will be even better. US retail sales during those core months will reach an estimated $857.18 billion, accounting for 17.0% of total retail sales for the year.

Adults in South Korea will spend more time with digital media than those in India and Japan
London, UK (June 12, 2017) — In 2017, daily time spent with digital media among adults will top 3 hours in Japan (3 hours 5 minutes) and South Korea (3 hours 26 minutes). Those in India will average less than half that time (1 hour 18 minutes), with digital accounting for just under one-third of total daily time spent with media.
