eMarketer Takes Prominent Role at dmexco Event in Germany

eMarketer chairman to lead discussion on key digital media trends

NEW YORK (August 26, 2015) — eMarketer is pleased to announce that its chairman and co-founder, Geoff Ramsey, will speak at this year’s dmexco event, which will take place in Cologne, Germany, on September 16 and 17. The event is expected to attract a large number of senior-level attendees from brands, agencies, media and technology companies from around the globe.

The panel session, titled “The Digitally Distracted Consumer,” will focus on the challenges and complexities facing media buyers and sellers in an increasingly fragmented digital world. Ramsey and MediaCom’s chief digital officer Deirdre McGlashan will discuss the global trends related to media fragmentation, device proliferation, consumer multitasking behavior and, ultimately, how marketers can win the attention of the digitally distracted consumer.

“To say that digitally connected consumers today are distracted is a vast understatement. As you look at the exploding number of media devices, platforms and channels, and then you realize it’s only going to get worse with wearables and the internet of things, it’s clear that media is not just fragmenting—it’s being atomized into a fine mist. In our talk on stage, Deirdre and I will highlight the important numbers, compare trends among various demographic groups and across countries, explore a few myths and provide some strategies that will help brands break through the clutter,” said Ramsey.

In addition to speaking at the conference, eMarketer will have a presence in the exhibition hall, and its team can be located in Hall 7 at Booth A060. Around the event, eMarketer will be launching its annual “Global Media Intelligence Report” in partnership with Starcom MediaVest Group, and booth visitors can hear about the key findings and download a sneak peek of the full report. There will also be a chance to meet with members of the eMarketer sales and marketing teams, take a tour of the product and learn about what’s in store for the upcoming months.

“We are pleased that eMarketer will have such a large presence at this year’s dmexco event—as a speaker, exhibitor and media partner,” said David Iankelevich, eMarketer’s senior vice president of marketing. “As Europe’s leading media event, this is the perfect platform for eMarketer to showcase its insights to a worldwide audience and demonstrate our commitment to the global marketing business.”

eMarketer’s research collects quantitative data from thousands of sources—research and analytics firms, investment banks, academic institutions, government agencies and other sources—as well as qualitative perspectives from marketing experts, media executives, analysts and more. eMarketer: A Happy Holiday Season Expected for Retailers

Posted By:

Retail holiday sales will grow 5.7% this year—the biggest jump since 2011

New York, NY — (Aug. 24, 2015) — This year’s holiday retail season is expected to be strong in the US. eMarketer forecasts that US retail sales in the months of November and December 2015 will increase 5.7% year over year, reaching $885.70 billion. That’s an upward adjustment from the 3.2% growth rate predicted earlier this year—and the highest since the 6.3% rise in 2011.

“Retail sales in November and December 2015 are expected to show a healthy increase over what was experienced during the same period in 2014. This expectation is driven primarily by the fact that gas station sales, which make up roughly 12% of overall retail sales, dropped rather dramatically in late 2014. Increases in real income from wages, further decreases in unemployment and an increased willingness to spend in traditional retail categories that missed out on the windfall in gas prices earlier on in the year should also drive growth,” said eMarketer analyst Monica Peart.

eMarketer: More Than Half of Millennials Use Phones For Banking

Posted By:

Those ages 18 to 34 are more than twice as likely to bank on their phones as baby boomers

New York, NY — (Aug. 18, 2015) — Millennials are embracing mobile banking at a much higher rate than their parents and grandparents. According to eMarketer’s latest US mobile banking usage forecast, nearly 59% of 18 to 34-year-old mobile phone users in the country will access their bank, credit union, credit card or brokerage accounts via mobile browser, app, or SMS on their phones at least monthly this year. In contrast, fewer than 28% of baby boomers will use mobile banking in 2015.

eMarketer: UK Consumers Embrace Digital Video Viewing

Posted By:

Half of UK smartphone users now watch video on their phones

LONDON, UK (Aug 11, 2015) — Digital video viewing is one of the UK’s most widespread digital activities, with almost 60% of the population predicted to watch digital video content via any device at least once per month in 2015, according to eMarketer’s latest forecasts. Unsurprisingly, digital video viewership among the country’s internet user population is even stronger and will approach three-quarters this year.

However, despite its growing popularity, digital video viewer penetration in the UK lags behind some other countries by this measure. In the US, for example, 63.5% of the total population will watch some form of digital video in 2015, eMarketer estimates.
