CEO, Retailers Association of India (RAI)
Retail ecommerce sales in India currently account for a sliver of all retail sales in the country, but that is expected to change quickly over the coming years in what is a mobile-first market. eMarketer’s Rahul Chadha spoke with Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of the Retailers Association of India (RAI), about the role smartphones will play in transforming offline shoppers into digital buyers.
eMarketer: What will be the main driver of ecommerce growth in India?
Kumar Rajagopalan: There are multiple parts to growth. One is, of course, access to the internet for consumers here in India. Mobile in India is big, and 4G is slowly becoming more important. There are now more mobile connections in this country than landline connections. India is seen as a market that jumps desktop technology because there is not much of a legacy here.
