Pawoot (Pom) Pongvitayapanu is deeply entrenched in Thailand’s ecommerce sector, both as the founder and CEO of the marketplace Tarad.com and as the founder of digital marketing services provider efrastructure group. eMarketer’s Rahul Chadha spoke with Pongvitayapanu about Thailand’s mcommerce surge, the importance of social commerce to small- and medium-sized businesses and a shakeup in the digital payments sector coming courtesy of the government.
eMarketer: There’s been a lot of talk about the growth of mobile in Thailand. What portion of your sales comes via mobile devices?
Pawoot Pongvitayapanu: About 50% of them, including smartphones and tablets. Mobile use is huge right now.
