Data is from the July 2019 Advertising Analytics and Cross Screen Media report titled "2020 Political Spending Projections." Historic ad spending levels come from Advertising Analytics’ comprehensive database of political media expenditures. The database includes $10 billion of ad spending, more than 2,000 elections, and 8 million ad airings. This baseline number is then adjusted by factors such as the price of a media market and candidate cash-on-hand reports.
