  • Methodology:

Data is from the March 2017 Brandwatch report titled "Deutsche Supermärkte in der Online-Welt" in collaboration with SEMrush. Data regarding well-known supermarkets and discount stores in Germany was collected during November 22, 2016-January 5, 2017. The supermarkets and discount stores included in this study were Aldi, Aldi Nord, Aldi Süd, Edeka Zentrale AG & Co. KG, Kaufland, Lidl, Marktkauf, Norma, Penny, Real, REWE and Tegut. The top 100 supermarket-/discount-store-related search requests on Google were analyzed by SEMrush. Mentions of supermarkets and discount stores on publicly available content of 80 million URLs, including blogs, forums, news sites, photo/video platforms (e.g., Instagram), review sites and social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), were analyzed by Brandwatch. The Instagram account of Kaufland was not analyzed because it was created after the beginning of the survey period on December 1, 2016.
