Data is from the November 2016 Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford report titled "Digital News Project 2016: News Alerts and the Battle for the Lock Screen" conducted by YouGov. 7,577 internet users ages 18+ in Germany, Taiwan, the UK and the US were surveyed online during September 26-October 10, 2016. Smartphone users accounted for 1,025 respondents in Taiwan (98%), 1,701 in Germany (81%), 1,797 in the UK (85%) and 1,881 in the US (81%). In addition, 14 in-depth interviews were conducted with smartphone users who actively use news/sports alerts. Finally, background interviews were conducted with representatives from news organizations including the BBC, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, Financial Times and Economist. The report was published with the support of Google's Digital News Initiative.
