Japan's Tablet Growth:
New figures from International Data Corporation (IDC) show that tablet shipments in Japan increased to 2.29 million units in Q2 2017—a 27.5% increase over last year's figure. Demand for tablets was largely for home use, with shipments to businesses down during the quarter.
Marketers of voice assistant-powered devices will have their work cut out for them inspiring adoption in the UK. A recent survey by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) found 54% of internet users ages 16 and older said they hadn't used voice assistant technology and were not interested in doing so in the future. One of the primary deterrents, cited by 29% of respondents, was a reticence to speak commands out loud. More females than males (33% vs. 25%) expressed that sentiment.
HK Retail Recovery:
Hong Kong's retail sector has now seen six straight months of growth, according to figures released by the government. Most recently, sales increased by 2.7% year over year in August. The resumption of retail growth follows a two-year downturn experienced in the sector.
