In France, Time Spent Watching TV via Mobile Higher than on Any Other Digital Device
In 2016, for the first time, more TV in France was watched digitally via mobile phone or tablet than on any other device. According to a March 2017 report from Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC), the share of TV viewed via mobile phone or tablet has increased steadily since 2011.
Nearly 40% of all time spent watching TV content digitally in France was done via a mobile phone or tablet last year, while 31.6% was done on a connected TV.
Meanwhile, the share of digital TV watched on computer has declined dramatically, falling from 71.0% in 2011 to just 29.5% in 2016.
A Q2 2016 survey from TiVo found that internet users in France ages 18 and older who subscribed to pay TV or subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services spent an average of 4.1 hours per day viewing TV or video content. By comparison, respondents in the UK spent 4.3 hours daily, and those in the US spent 5.6 hours a day.
