Adult smartphone users in France willing to use mobile payment apps would be most comfortable spending less than €20 ($22.12) via that method, according to December 2016 polling conducted by Ifop for IT services firm Comarch.
The largest share of respondents—49%—said they would be at least somewhat willing to make mobile payments worth less than €20. Twenty-six percent said they would be completely willing to do so at that level.
Respondents were far less taken with the idea of making mobile payments worth over €20. A mere 11% were completely willing and only 18% somewhat willing to make mobile payments of €20 to €100 ($22.11 to $110.66). Moreover, only 14% were willing to make mobile payments of €100 or more.
The vast majority of this study’s willing mobile payment participants are unlikely to have actually done so. A recent eMarketer article highlighted polling from July 2016 that found just 6% of mobile phone users in France had used them—the second lowest rate among the five countries in Western Europe examined. Only Germany, at 4%, scored lower.
