Why Digital Buyers in Japan Prefer Certain Ecommerce Sites

Digital buyers like fast delivery and discounts

More than half of digital buyers in Japan said they prefer to use a particular ecommerce site because of the wide product selection offered. Cheap shipping charges and better prices were other reasons that affected their preference.

JustSystems surveyed 670 internet users between the ages of 20 and 59.

The March 2016 data also found that 46.8% of digital buyers in Japan said they prefer to use a particular ecommerce site because it offers the ability to earn points. And, more than a third of respondents said they prefer a site because of its ease of finding desired products.

Of course, it’s no surprise that when digital buyers do make ecommerce purchases, they overwhelmingly do so via credit card, nearly 81% of respondents said so.

Nearly 16% have used prepaid cards, and just 6.7% use debit cards. That’s actually less than the 6.9% who said they use digital payment services—like Edy or Suica—to make ecommerce purchases.

Digital buyers in Japan are, in fact, considerably curious about digital payment services.

Some 14.2% definitely want to try a payment service, while another 18.2% would at least consider doing so.

The combined interest in trying a payment service almost exactly matches the disinterest in doing so, and with 34.2% of those surveyed unsure, digital payment services have potential users at their fingertips, if they can figure out how to attract them.
