Although small businesses aren’t the earliest adopters of technology, they believe video streaming will affect how they market in the coming years, according to September 2015 research.
Constant Contact surveyed 893 US small-business professionals and asked them what trends they think will have the greatest effect on how they market their business. Respondents were asked to choose their top three. More than half of US small-business professionals said video streaming was one the trends that will have the greatest effect on how they market their business in the next two to three years. The internet of things (IoT) and messaging apps were other trends they thought would affect their business.
Only 10% of respondents said wearables would have the greatest effect on how they market their business and even fewer said 3-D printing would.
Indeed, small businesses are looking at new types of technology that will affect their organization, but a lack of budget for technology—as well as an old-school mentality many still have—continues to be a challenge.
In a December 2014 survey by The Alternative Board, only 15% of small-business owners worldwide said technology and innovation was an area they wished they spent more time on, and 20% of respondents said it was an area where they would have invested more money when starting their business. Compared to strategic planning and sales, which were higher on the list, technology is still not that high of a priority for small-business owners.
