Digital video viewing is popular in Brazil: Some seven in 10 TV viewers watch video via digital channels as well. And for the youngest among them, smartphones are the No. 1 viewing device.
According to Google, Gupo Meio & Mensagem and Provokers, 69% of TV viewers ages 14 to 55 reported watching digital video in September 2015. Among the subset under 18, digital video reach was 87%.
The teen respondents spent more time with digital video on average, too, at 19.7 hours per week vs. 15.0 among the general population.
And a lot of that time is likely spent watching video on smartphones. More than half of teen digital video viewers said they preferred to watch on their phone—making smartphones more than twice as popular as desktop or laptop computers for watching video among teens.
The overall respondent base also preferred smartphones, but at a lower rate of 42%. Desktop and laptop PCs were a comparatively small 9 percentage points behind in terms of preferences.
Watching digital video content on TV screens, whether by connecting the TV to a computer, via an over-the-top (OTT) device or genuine smart TV connection was fairly unpopular among all age groups: Just 13% of teens and 22% of all respondents chose one of these responses.
