The use of mobile phones is still growing, and more than half of US small businesses have taken note and optimized their sites accordingly. Some 40%, however, have not.
Yodle and Research Now polled 400 US small businesses. Small businesses were defined as locally operated businesses with fewer than 25 employees. More than half (52%) of respondents said their website is mobile-optimized thanks to the increased use of mobile phones.
Additionally, 14% of US small businesses said because of the increase, they built mobile-optimized emails, and 11% said they use SMS marketing.
Perhaps surprisingly, 40% of small businesses have done none of these things. A separate survey from RBC Capital Markets also found that most small and medium-sized businesses based in the US still don’t have a mobile-optimized website. However, the share that does has grown significantly over the past year.
According to the research, 64% of US small and medium-sized businesses had a professional website for their business, and an additional 10% planned to create one. That represented mixed progress since the prior year, when just 60% had a site but 17% planned to create one.
