Snapchat Skews Young and Female in the UK

Just over half of users are under 35

The majority of UK snapchat users are women, according to an October 2016 survey conducted by Verto Analytics. Women make up 55% of all Snapchat users, and about the same share are under 35.

That young skew may not be surprising. Snapchat is often painted as an app beloved by millennials, and it’s true that those ages 18 to 34 make up the majority of users—but just barely, at 51%. But older users are prevalent as well.

Take, for example, users ages 35 to 54—they make up 37% of all Snapchat users. And one in 10 UK Snapchat users are 55 or older.

In the UK, Snapchat also enjoys a good amount of general popularity among messaging apps.

An August 2016 survey from MetrixLab reveals that there is high awareness about Snapchat in the UK. Among messaging apps, smartphone owners in the UK are only more aware of Skype, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger than they are of Snapchat. Compared to France and the Netherlands, more UK smartphone owners are aware of Snapchat.

That same MetrixLab survey reports that nearly 30% of smartphone owners in the UK who had installed the Snapchat app use Snapchat daily.

A July 2016 survey conducted by Ipsos MORI found that 15% of consumers in Great Britain ages 15 and older had used Snapchat in the three months prior to the survey.
