Facebook Reports Another Bug
Facebook is reporting another data error, a bug it found that misattributed some clicks on video carousel ads as link clicks. In a blog post, the company said the bug occurred when people were on mobile web browsers on smartphones (not desktop) or within the Facebook app. Facebook will give advertisers full credit for the charges incurred from the misattributed clicks.
Instagram Copies Snapchat ... Again
In August 2016, Instagram launched Stories, a reported reaching more than 200 million users a day. That’s more than Snapchat, which reported 158 million daily global users as of Q4 2016.
Telenor Picks up Southeast Asia Classifieds Sites
Norway-based telecom Telenor has inked deals with Singapore Press Holdings and Schibsted to acquire their stakes in a number of classified advertising sites operating in Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar. Among the sites Telenor will own outright are Malaysia’s Mudah, Vietnam’s Chotot and Myanmar’s OneKyat. Telenor said the move was made to streamline its business and make strategic moves in markets it deems important.
India’s Idea Cellular Loses 6.35 Million Mobile Internet Connections
Disruption of India’s mobile service sector by newcomer Reliance Jio continues apace. Idea Cellular reported that it lost 6.35 million mobile internet connections quarter over quarter in Q1 2017. The company now has 42.23 million subscribers. By comparison, Reliance Jio, which launched last fall and offers users 4G data plans at considerably lower prices than its competitors, reported having a user base of 72 million on its all-4G network.
