Bitcoin Value Tops $1,000
Bitcoin's value exceeded $1,000 for the first time since 2013. A report on CNBC said the cryptocurrency has been buoyed in recent months by a variety of factors, including the devaluation of the yuan and geopolitical uncertainty. Bitcoin prices have more than doubled in the past year, with the majority of trading originating in China.
Unease About AMP
Google's AMP standard, designed to improve mobile browsing, is causing unease among some publishers, the New York Times reports. Some publishers, particularly smaller ones, worry that the standard, while improving mobile performance, gives too much control to Google.
Apple Close to Manufacturing iPhones in India
Apple is moving to begin manufacturing in India, according to a number of reports. Bloomberg says Apple is seeking a tax break on the phones it plans to manufacture in India, where it trails rivals selling cheaper handsets. The Times of India details Apple's manufacturing plans.
VW Buys PayByPhone
Volkswagen has acquired PayByPhone, an app that lets consumers pay for parking, as well as parking tickets, via their smartphone, TechCrunch reports. The automaker has been looking at different mobility services. Last month, Volkswagen launched Moia, a standalone mobility company that focuses on fleet-based commuter shuttles and self-driving cars.
