Internet users in Canada still prefer conducting finance-related digital activities on desktops and laptops, according to RateHub. Eighty-two percent of users on the RateHub network use them, far ahead of the share using mobile devices.
Mobile device usage has grown substantially since 2013 when it comes to internet users in Canada comparing financial products. In 2013, a quarter of internet users on the RateHub network used a mobile device to compare products; by 2015, that figure had risen to 37%.
While it might be increasingly convenient to look for information about financial products while on mobile, internet users still prefer to conduct their more intensive activity of actually starting up a new account more traditionally, that is, on a desktop or laptop. Perhaps mobile sites and apps aren’t up to snuff for the type of financial activities internet users in Canada are looking to conduct—but perhaps many of these activities are simply still being conducted by users sitting at a desk and focusing on an important financial task.
However, a TSYS June 2015 survey revealed that mobile device users in Canada are most likely to use a banking app when using financial app services. About a quarter (24%) of those surveyed used one at least a few times a month. With increased mobile usage in some realms of the financial field, companies would do well to consider how best to offer a better and more fulfilling mobile experience for internet users in Canada.
