The Latin American internet audience is nearly 310 million, and 231.0 million people in the region will use the mobile internet next year. But the vast majority of internet traffic in the region still comes from desktop and laptop computers, according to August 2014 data from comScore.
In Mexico, which had the lowest share of traffic from PCs of any country studied, more than three-quarters of all internet traffic still came from desktop and laptop devices. Another 18.0% came from mobile phones, and 3.7% from tablets—in both cases, the highest percentages of any country studied.
On the other end of the spectrum is Argentina, where 86.9% of internet traffic came from desktops and laptops, vs. just 10.9% from mobile phones.
The general pattern aligns with eMarketer’s estimates of mobile internet penetration, which are highest in Mexico and lowest in Argentina, though eMarketer only breaks out those two countries along with Brazil in its forecast.
