Most People Don't Want Virtual Reality Headsets

Price may be a reason why

Though US internet users are interested in virtual reality (VR) and experiencing different types of content via the technology, February 2016 research found that most users worldwide are not interested in purchasing a VR headset.

Video game media company Gamer Network surveyed approximately 14,000 internet users worldwide. All respondents were visitors to Gamer Network websites. More than half (59.5%) of internet users worldwide said they are not interested in purchasing a virtual reality headset this year. A little over a quarter (25.6%) of respondents said they might be, or are not sure, if they are interested in purchasing one, and just 14.9% said they are interested.

Cost may be the reason why some users are not interested in purchasing a VR headset. Gamer Network also asked respondents what the most important factors were when purchasing a virtual reality headset. More than half (51.3%) of US internet users said that price was one of the most important factors.

Visual quality was another important factor; 47.3% of respondents said it was in their top two among the choices studied. Compatibility, anti-motion sickness and controllers were other important factors.
